The Ancient of Days Reigns

“As I looked,

(A)thrones were placed,
    and the (B)Ancient of Days took his seat;
(C)his clothing was white as snow,
    and (D)the hair of his head like pure wool;
his throne was fiery flames;
    (E)its wheels were burning fire.
10 (F)A stream of fire issued
    and came out from before him;
(G)a thousand thousands (H)served him,
    (I)and ten thousand times ten thousand (J)stood before him;
the (K)court sat in judgment,
    and (L)the books were opened.

21 As I looked, this horn (A)made war with the saints and prevailed over them, 22 until the (B)Ancient of Days came, and (C)judgment was given for the saints of the Most High, and the time came when (D)the saints possessed the kingdom.

22 (A)For the Father judges no one, but (B)has given all judgment to the Son, 23 that all may honor the Son, just as they (C)honor the Father. (D)Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

Or do you not know that (A)the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life!

When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under (A)the altar (B)the souls of those who had been slain (C)for the word of God and for (D)the witness they had borne. 10 They cried out with a loud voice, “O Sovereign Lord, (E)holy and true, (F)how long (G)before you will judge and (H)avenge our blood on (I)those who dwell on the earth?” 11 Then they were each given (J)a white robe and (K)told to rest a little longer, (L)until the number of their fellow servants and their brothers[a] (M)should be complete, who were to be killed as they themselves had been.

And he went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who was seated on the throne. And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders (A)fell down before the Lamb, (B)each holding a harp, and (C)golden bowls full of incense, (D)which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang (E)a new song, saying,

“Worthy are you to take the scroll
    and to open its seals,
for (F)you were slain, and by your blood (G)you ransomed people for God
    from (H)every tribe and language and people and nation,
10 and you have made them (I)a kingdom and priests to our God,
    and they shall reign on the earth.”

Then I saw (A)thrones, and (B)seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw (C)the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those (D)who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. (E)They came to life and (F)reigned with Christ for a thousand years. The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. (G)Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such (H)the second death has no power, but they will be (I)priests of God and of Christ, and they (J)will reign with him for a thousand years.

20 But in fact (A)Christ has been raised from the dead, (B)the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For as (C)by a man came death, (D)by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For (E)as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then (F)at his coming (G)those who belong to Christ.

The Coming of the Lord

13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, (A)that you may not grieve as others do (B)who have no hope. 14 For (C)since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him (D)those who have fallen asleep. 15 For this we declare to you (E)by a word from the Lord,[a] that (F)we who are alive, who are left until (G)the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For (H)the Lord himself will descend (I)from heaven (J)with a cry of command, with the voice of (K)an archangel, and (L)with the sound of the trumpet of God. And (M)the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be (N)caught up together with them (O)in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so (P)we will always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.

So we are always of good courage. We know that (A)while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for (B)we walk by faith, not (C)by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we (D)would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
